RE: Bridgepoint Health Centre, Toronto, redevelopment problems.
Sir:
There is an opportunity in Toronto to establish a non-profit or
co-op housing entity in a redundant building on City land: Riverdale
Hospital (built in 1963). Unbelievably it currently faces demolition
under a plan proposed by Bridgepoint Health.
Furthermore: severe environmental problems related to new construction
on this Don Valley site have been ignored in Bridgepoint's proposal.
Can your office please indicate to the Ministry of Housing and
Municipal Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Infrastructure
Renewal, Ministry of the Environment, Bridgepoint Health and the
City of Toronto that this file should be revisited with great
urgency? The proposal is quickly proceeding through City Hall and will be heard by City Council this Tuesday, January 17th, 2006.
This riding currently lacks Provincial representation and we rely
on your office to speak for us.
Regards,
Steve Russell, VP, Toronto Architectural Conservancy
